6 Top Tips on Cleaning Your Electric Scooter

Keep your electric scooter squeaky clean with these tips! Unlike cars and bicycles, cleaning an escooter can be tricky business. We’ll show you how to work around tight spots and what tools to use.

How often should I clean my electric scooter?

The short answer is, it depends on how often you ride it and where are you riding?

Ride Time: Once a week

The escooter is your weekday commuter in city bike lanes and you spend the weekends trail riding. Try to clean, tighten any loose bolts, and give your escooter a look over once a week. Frequently cleaning your escooter prevents dirt build up and makes the cleaning process easier.

Ride Time: Few times a week

Sadly, the escooter is not your go-to but you enjoy a long ride a few times a week. You roll through bike lanes and over hills but not off-road. With minimal road time, you can get away with cleaning the escooter every two weeks or once a month. Assuming, you’ve completed daily maintenance checks  before every ride.

What electric scooter cleaning supplies do I need?

  • Sitting Stool
  • Hard Bristle Brush
  • Old Toothbrush
  • Dish Soap
  • Warm Water
  • Microfibre Towel
  • Isopropyl Alcohol / 75% Rubbing Alcohol (Optional)
  • Paper Towels

6 Tips for cleaning your electric scooter

  1. Cover the charging port before cleaning.
  2. Use a hard bristle to loosen dirt build up.
  3. Wipe the escooter with a microfibre towel.
  4. Soak an old toothbrush in soapy water and brush the grip tape. Use paper towels or newspaper to soak up the soap and clean the grip tape.
  5. Use isopropyl alcohol to clean the disc brakes and unpainted metal parts.
  6. Rest the escooter in a ventilated area to dry by airflow.

3 Practices to avoid when cleaning an electric scooter

  1. Never use a water hose to clean your escooter. Use a damp towel to wipe the vehicle down.
  2. Do not dry under the sun directly after cleaning. The remaining water may turn into steam which may travel into the escooter.
  3. Do not use a hair dryer as it can push water into the escooter.
